Lever Gardens Mural – Bolton@Home
I was commissioned by the residents of Lever Gardens sheltered housing to design and make a 22m long mural celebrating nature and flowers incorporating smart materials.
A designer & community artist based in Manchester, Nerissa designs and makes stuff. She also helps others to design and make stuff.
My design, project management, painting & prop making skills have led me to be commissioned to create non-theatre sculptures & installations which is really what sets & props are without the performance. I enjoy this type of work and would like to do more. Theatre is often very transitory & exclusive so it is nice when my work can be seen by a wider community and may also have a longer life like the Miles Platting mural and Lever Gardens mural.

I worked with 4 local primary schools to create some public art as part of the Water Music project for The Bridgewater Hall learning department. Each of the 4 works of art was very individual, looking at different aspects of the canal and different art techniques.
As part of the exhibition for the 42nd Street AGM & opening of the new building, we wanted to create something that could link the groups. We also wanted something to remind us of some of the previous projects that have happened as part of Planet Art.
In 2011, 42nd Street moved into a new building which had been especially designed for them. Over the summer before the move, I worked with box of frogs on a project with the young people who use it about the transition & exploring ideas for the interior of the new building.
Eastlands Homes applied to Walk The Plank for their Youth Forum to take part in the Manchester Day Parade 2011. They were keen to celebrate music icons from Manchester.
I was commissioned by Groundwork to design & paint a mural on Miles Platting Library as part of a larger regeneration project in the area. My brief was to create something bright & happy to cheer people up & to do this through workshops with local children.
I grew up in Pittenweem and had been involved in the festival when I was younger including working with sculptor Paul Moodie to create a large dragon for the festival opening night in 1990.
I was invited back to create a cake for their 21st birthday.
The brief was to design something traditional for the main hall and something more modern for the foyer, landings and windows.
